Delegate Showcase – Wendy Monaghan and Building a Portfolio. Each month we showcase a delegate who has attended our Welshot events and for February 2024 it’s the turn of Wendy Monaghan. Wendy has been taking photos her whole life, much to the dismay of her family and friends. Wendy mainly used point and shoot cameras and took her rolls of film into the local Max Spielman, or sent the roll off to be developed (remember the Kodak envelopes you could pick up to send your film off, should you get a second set of prints or not…) where you also had negatives delivered with your images.  Wendy remembers picking the pictures she wanted duplicates of, going through the negatives and either sending them off again or taking them to the local shop.

Creative Christmas Photography - Anglesley Photographic Academy Evening

Creative Christmas Photography at the Llandudno Photographic Academy Evening is all about having some fun with your camera while you create some wonderful seasonal photographs.  At the November Welshot Academy Evening at the Welshot Creative Hub you will be learning how to make your own Christmas filters, then using fairy lights, and Christmas trees, you will learn how to capture that lovely Bokeh in your camera which makes for some stunning and festive images.  We will also be working with coloured lights, torches and gels to do some inside light-painting.  From flat-lay to still-life photography, from food to Christmas products this will be an opportunity for those who want to make festive and seasonal images for a specific purpose – art work, Christmas cards, stock photography or just for the pure fun of learning something new and a chance to take some photos.  Hot chocolate, Christmas mince pies, Christmas crackers and a glass (or two) of mulled wine will complete this last Llandudno Academy Evening for 2022.

Portrait Photography – Friday Night is Studio Night at the Welshot Creative Hub. This Welshot Photographic Academy Evening, based at the Welshot Creative Hub in Llandudno North Wales will be the perfect opportunity for you to get creative, work with models, build yourself a photographic portfolio, learn about studio (Mains Flash and Off Camera Flash) lighting and help you to keep up-to-date with the latest techniques, skills and equipment. Limited to eight photographers, with at least two models and two different studio set-ups during the course of this Evening photography workshop you will get One to One and Group tuition and training to help, support and guide you through what can often be thought of as a confusing and complex genre of photography.  This, dedicated to learning all things studio lighting for photography course, will have you taking and making portrait images that you will be proud to show off.    

Grab your camera, charge you battery, it’s time for the Welshot Low-Light & Creative Cityscape Photography – Chester – Roving Academy Evening event.  Meeting at the Chester Crowne Plaza we will be walking along part of the walls and towards the River Dee where we will capture the historical atmosphere of Chester.  From low-light to long exposures, from wide landscapes (Cityscapes) to stunning details that you will only find in this Roman City – this photography workshop is going to have you and your camera looking for lead in lines, reflections, and details galore. You will be learning to ‘See’ images in Black & White and how to make the most of whatever the weather and light throws at us. From picture in puddles (if it rains) to long, creative exposures, which will have us capturing traffic trails. From wide Cityscape vistas to getting those detail shots – this event will have you going home with plenty of photographs secure on your memory card.

This Lighting for studio portraiture using studio mains flash for is a practical, hands on Welshot Academy Evening for all photography enthusiasts wanting to learn how to creatively shoot portraits using flash studio lights. Learning about lighting, and how it works, is the single most important thing you can learn when it comes to your portrait photography. Rembrandt, butterfly, side and split lighting, using grids, getting creative, learning to see (and shoot) in black and white will help you to create, learn and inspire your photography. Your studio mains flash for his photography workshop will be taking place at The Bulkeley Hotel, Beaumaris, Anglesey.

Post processing and editing for photography – Just like when you took a photo with your camera using film, your digital shot still needs to be developed and that’s where Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom Classic and Affinity Photo come into their own. These are three of the most popular editing software tools for the photographer and on our Welshot editing days our team of experts will help you to look at your photo, assess it in a constructive way, and then create an edit plan for your image. Working on a one to one basis as well as in small groups you will be guaranteed to get the help needed for you and your photography.
