I'm looking for a light to do some portrait work with, not sure of the name but i need a light that is able to provide constant light and be able to use a snoot with.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks

I would be interested to see what you get on this one John. I don't think that a plastic snoot would work with a high power modeling light (Continuous). There are cheep studio light heads on Ebay 150W, that you could use without firing the strobe, £30-£40 ish. But if you have a decent sized studio you will likely want more oomph.
If you are goingto use a continious light ( a large Tungsten light 500w ), I would NOT use a snoot as this will get very hot and could cause a fire.
There are some continious lights available now which use COOL lights, the downside of these is that they are fairly expensive and are not suitable for use with a snoot due to the way the bulbs are fitted to the head. Have a look at the link I have here :

The other solution is to have a look at E bay and see if there are any studio flash heads for sale in the S fitting, this is the fitting that Bowens, Lastolite use for acessories and you can buy third party acessories cheaper than the makers own.

If you do go for continuous lighting, would echo the comment about checking out eBay - I picked up a couple of sets a few months ago on the cheap, and they work brilliantly.
I would also stay clear of plastic snoots, an alternative which I think is also better than a rigid snoot is using Cinefoil - it's black aluminium foil specifically for studio/film lighting, much thicker than your garden-variety kitchen foil - has the advantage of being able to be modelled for different modifications, and reusable.
