If anyone wants to follow all the breaking news from Welshot Towers they can follow Welshot on facebook and twitter at the following addresses

http://twitter.com/welshot

http://www.facebook.com/welshot (http://www.facebook.com/welshot)

The welshot photographic academy flickr group is also now open for business :yahoo:

The group can be found at www.flickr.com/groups/welshot/

This group has been set up to give members an area to showcase their images either taken on or inspired by the welshot academy. The pictures can be from academy nights, events or workshops or any images that show what you have learned from the academy.

Those of you with a flickr account will likely already be familiar with how flickr works. If you don't have an account then why not get one and share your images with us all? Free accounts are available by clicking on the big "Create Your Account" button at www.flickr.com

To join the group simply visit www.flickr.com/groups/welshot/ and click on the join button. Your application will then be sent to the group moderators and once we have confirmed that you are an academy member will be accepted. You can then add up to 6 images a day to the group.

If any one needs any advice or guidance on setting up an account, joining the group or any other aspect of flickr please ask in this forum and we'll answer all your questions.

Right go and post some pictures people :D

(The small print)

Only Academy Members can add to the group.
The group is viewable by anyone.
No pictures that may cause offence please, the group has been flagged as safe for all to view.
Your application to join the group will be processed quicker if you've used the same email address to register with flickr and welshot. We'll work it out if you haven't it just might take a bit longer.
The group is not for critique, feel free to comment on other users pictures but no essays please.

I have signed up Paul, or at least have put in a request, but Flickr didn't ask me for an email address. I hope I've done it right.

Do you have to sign to Yahoo

Paul Smith
11/10/2009, 15:28
Yahoo own flickr so you do need to create a yahoo id to use on flickr. If you've already got a yahoo id then you can use that.

Have just added a few more pics to the site. Seems to me that this is a great innovation and should develop nicely over time. I was just wondering whether it might be an idea to arrange the pictures into relevant sets eg specific welshot events or topics. What do others think?

Would be nice to do but sadly I don't think (and can't see) any way to do it. It might be a good idea to have a unique tag for each event, we could then tag our images and search the group pool for just that event.

Personally I quite like seeing a jumble on the front page. Shows the diversity of what we get up to.

Hi Paul, just thought it might be possible to organise in the same way as personal photostreams which would still provide the mixed collection as the default. I had sort of assumed that there would be administrator rights that would allow this to be done. But I was obviously mistaken. I guess that my obsessional mind always has a tendency to want to categorise things into some sort of order. Would also provide easy reference to see how differently people have tackled the same subjects. Always of source of fascination for me.

This is probably a stupid question as the answer is likely to be out there somewhere but I can't find it. What size files should we upload, are they secure and, if not, do we need to put a copyright notice on them for security? OK so it was three questions!!

Hi Pearl, I always downsize the images before uploading them (I use 1024px on longest side, others use smaller), you can use the security settings in Your Account to adjust the privacies of the files. They can be set that only you can download them if you choose, that disables the 'AllSIzes' button above the image.

You can choose the licence that you set them as (I use All Rights Reserved), but the reality is that nothing online is totally secure

Marian :)

@Paul - you could have specific threads where the images could be posted, but that isn't as intuitive as posting to the group. I know that some groups have photomeet threads. The other thing that could be done, is to have a tag that is added to the images, and then have a link that is a search for all images with that tag.

None of these will arrange the images in the group pool tho

Hi Pearl, I have done the same as Marian, downsized to 1024 pixels on longest side and used the "all rights reserved" copyright as well as embedding my own copyright in the metadata. I have downloaded one of my images and both statements appear.

Thank you Marian and Tony. I will give it a try as soon as I get a minute or two. :)

Good work people, that saved me a job. I'll consider writing another post on some of the issues raised if you like.

Like the idea about having threads for events as well. You're all welcome to start them though if you wish. This really isn't my or welshots group, it's a place for the members to show off their work and share their experiences, really glad to see you making use of it and hopefully we'll see some more images soon.

Eifion and I too, are also very pleased to see the response of this.

As Paul has said, it is a place to show off the work done on Welshot Workshops and Evenings because it is nice for other members to see how another member has seen an image and then how they have been processed.

I still dont know how Eifion looks like that though....... ;)
