I have this fabulous camera that can do so much more than I do with it professionally and that annoys me. I paid for this extra functionality whether I wanted it or not. So as I've got it I've decided I should learn how to use it.

So, anyone filming with their 5D Mk2? Any tips? Any support you can give me on this journey of uselessness (it's going to be odd going from a high level of competence with my camera to a rock bottom level of competence!)? :please:

I'm in same boat, I haven't got a burning desire to get into videography, but would like to give it a bash some point, if anything just to try something new.
In the 6 months or so I've had the D7000, I don't think I've yet switched it into video mode, which as you say is a shame as it's extra functionality that we've paid for.

One tip I have picked up so far though is that it's almost essential to shell out for an external mic with a wind baffler, the built in one's are notoriously crap, to the point that you can hear the AF motor on any audio!

I suppose it's a whole new world of expense as well if you start getting even semi serious about it, things like tripod heads we use for still's just don't cut the mustard when filming, and then you have lighting etc.

Maybe I need to organise a John Arnold session, as this is what he actually does for a living....

He uses video cameras as well as the video functionality on his camera. But you all know John, nothing geeky he does not know about (if that makes sense)

John will be filming at Focus for the whole four days.

I organise something for Welshot, would you be interested?

Lee :)

Interested? I'd bite your hand off and take 3 places right off! And in fact I have a friend who is a seasoned pro who wants to learn too so she'd probably ask for a place too. So that's 4 of us already!

Count me in for workshop, would also like to learn about the editing side of things, using Premiere Pro & After Effects, suspect that may not have such a huge takeup of delegates though, although love to be proved wrong!

It's on the list or our development meeting with John.... (17th of this month)

It shall be organised ASAP.

He thought that about non processing stuff with Lightroom and it proved to be one of the most popular evenings.

People love to learn how to use programmes to make the best out of their material.

This could also be something for our online training as well...

Lee :)

Count me in if your thinking of doing a day workshop on Video.

Nice to see Welshot getting into video as I must admit I didnt think it was something that was on the cards. Nice move!

I'd also be interested in a video workshop and / or an editing session on the computer, count me in :)

"Top tip: dont shoot in portrait.. (nudge nudge John Evans!) "

Very true....caught up in the excitement, dead easy to go into portrait mode without thinking only to realise when editing....Doh!

I would say, get out there and have a play with the HD mode, it's the only way you develop a style and find out what you do/don't like

I keep thinking that - I shall take your advice and get out there! BTW ... where exactly is there? ;-)
