Welshot Imaging is going to be running a “Birds of Prey” photographic workshop at the Mid Wales Falconry Centre, near Welshpool.

The date is Saturday 19th September. (date has had to be changed, previously advertised as 20th Sept)

Our host is Cheryl Surry, and for those of you who met her at our Open Day in April you will realise just how much of an expert in this genre Cheryl is.

On the day you will get help from Cheryl, Malcolm (another professional photographer with a passion for this subject) and Eifion will be on hand and of course me, to feed and water you all and to make sure you all ok.

Price is £150.00 but for Academy Members we are offering this as a VERY special deal at £75.00 if you register (by phoning me initially on ph 01248 670 693) by Wednesday 9th September. It includes lunch and refreshments.

We have the expertise of a Falconer who will give you an amazing insight to these magnificent birds and will teach you not only how to photograph them but also they live. They will include
Barn Owl
Tawny Owl
Great Grey
Long-Eared Owl
+ 1 other, possibly kestrel.

Static shots will be set up with the end result in mind and will make the best of the conditions.

We will be starting with a slide show.

Let me know if you are interested.

I am also interested, but will need to look at the logistics with regard to work etc. What sort of time do these workshops start etc? where do we all meet up and stuff?

Marian :)

Thanks to those that attended. It was a good day with pretty much perfect weather for falconry photography, so there should be some good results.

So thanks John, Pete, Sian*, David, Chris and Steve you made it a fun day for me as well.

*hope that's the right spelling, sorry if not.

Eifion and I would like to give a huge Thank You to Cheryl, Malcolm, Paul, Luke and Holly the Dog for providing Welshot Imaging with what is going to go down as one of the most informative and fun day out that you could have wanted.

Not only was it about capturing these magnificent birds in camera but it was a lesson on nature and birds and that in itself made the day so special.

Welshot Imaging is proud to be associated with the Mid Wales Falconry Centre and Paul the Falconer who is passionate about the conservation of these magnificent creatures.

I myself, learnt that all Owls are not just Owls and each speceis has its own unique-ness :)

Thanks to Cheryl and Malcolm for some great photographic tuition and making it as easy as you could. A good day was had by all and we look forward to seeing the images.

Lee and Eifion

Excellent day, thanks to all for your time and expertise. This is a subject I would like to explore further, so please keep me informed of future courses and meets. Still not sure what is involved in swapping Cheryl's lens for my body, must be something for another day!
It was also really good to see the passion that Paul and Luke had for the birds, and this showed in the lovely condition and quality of birds being shown and on display in the yard/garden.
For those wanting to know the names of the birds, in order of presentation (is this pecking order?), as follows:
1 Tawny Owl - Jasmine
2 Long-eared Owl - Oscar
3 Goshawk - Gelert (being fed in yard at lunchtime)
4 Great Grey Owl - Cheep
5 Barn Owl - Magic
6 Kestrel - Archie
7 Long-earded Owl - Oscar.

Finally congrats to Cheryl on having an image selected for the Countryfile calendar.
David.
