Hello Academy Members.

Just to remind you all that Eifion is doing a workshop on Friday 4th September.

It is going to be an evening workshop, going into the night and covering some lowlight techniques.

It is also a Harvest Moon.

No firm "Location" arrangements have been made yet, it all depends on how many are taking up this as a "free workshop"

It is only available to Academy Members and if you dont want to use up your "Freebie" but want to come on this, the cost is £15.00

Numbers are resticted so let me know ok :please:

Lee :)

I am interested, please. Not as a freebie, I'll pay for this one.
Thanks,
David.

Hello Everyone :)

An email will be coming out tomorrow but here are a few details.

Meet at the Anglesey Arms Hotel at 6.30pm.

The idea is to go out on and around the surronding area of the Bridge, maybe down to the Church Island if the light is right ( and weather)

Eifion is aiming to help you with the following:

Lowlight Photography
Light Trails
Sunset (if we have one)

It is a moon harvest (thanks Pearl :) ) and hopefully we will be able to capture this.

I like the idea of going down to Church Island, and capturing the sun setting behind the Britannia Bridge and maybe the Moon over the top of the Menai Bridge from underneath it.

No time finish on this one, we will probably end up having a pint in the pub, especially if it raining.

We will do something though, so make sure you have your cameras, memory and batteries.

Ph me if you need any help.

Lee :)

I have been studying the map and doing some research on the moonrise location. It looks as though it will rise pretty much due east if my GPS isn't lying and I think that seems logical anyway at this time of year. Looking at the map the best location for capturing the moonrise and the Menai bridge is up at the A5 viewpoint. Would it be possible to incorporate this into the evening (only relevant if it is reasonably clear of course)?

Might be an idea Pearl... We will decide on Fri when meeting at the Anglesey Arms, and if it is clear and people want to travel then we could move on after we have done the traffic trails....

If anyone has any other suggestions, note them here and I will pick them up later on this evening / tomorrow.

You know me, Im always about :)

Thanks Lee. Can you put me on the list for it then - as my freebie?

Sounds promising. I'm guessing a tripod will also be essential kit for this one. My cheap ebay radio trigger/shutter release has arrived from china so will bring that along to test as well.

Any point bringing a flashgun or not? Probably not I would think.

Eifion says it is up to you, but he wouldnt think you would need it as you are going to be doing long night exposures.

Although, you may wanna do something creative.... So if you want to carry it then bring it along :)

Hi All,

To all of you who are coming on the Free night Workshop on Friday night, I will try and answer your questions.

Yes , please do bring a tripod with you as you will need it, if you have a cable release or a device to trigger the shutter without touching the camera then do bring that along also.

Some of you enquired about bringing a flash, well its not essential as we will be taking long exposures with the available light, but if we get a chance then we may try to do a bit of fill in flash , or some other techniques time permitting.

Please also make sure that your camera battery is fully charged as long exposures do drain your battery more than normal.

If you need any help please contact me.
See you Friday.

I will be at the meeting tonight too, probably with minimal equipment (camera/tripod/batteries) as this area is pretty much a local haunt for me ;)
Will see you there at 6.30 and will use my freebie up on this one

I really enjoyed it too but having processed the results I realise that I shall have to go back and do it better - perhaps when I have learnt some HDR stuff to get rid of the nasty hot spots.

Well Paul I think you have confirmed your geek status by being the first with an Avatar :D

It was the closest thing I could find to a picture of me :)

If anyone else is wondering how then just click on user cp at the top left of the forum and then edit avatar from the menu on the left.

Know what you mean about having to try again, those bridge lights were just too bright, next time we'll get lee to take the bulbs out.

I did a few HDR but they didn't really process up very well, and they still had the hot spots,
I too need to go back and try again I think,

Thanks Paul, I was looking all over for that. But now I've lost the quote thingy - I have used it before so I know it's there somewhere
