Martin Mere in Burscough, Lancashire is an internationally important nature reserve, with a 100 types of rare and endangered water-birds, a family of beavers and enchanting otters in residence, you can be sure of a great day out.


Martin Mere offers a wonderful chance to capture a large number of different bird species in one area, close up. As well as birds, there are numerous types of plants and flowers, landscape opportunities, extreme species as swans, flamingos to African Damoiselle Cranes to Andean Geese as well as Asian Otters in a photographic friendly area.


We will have access to a wide variety of birds, both UK and exoctic species to photograph, including many close up. There is also a good photographic friendly otter enclosure to get some great shots. There are also a large number of hides that we can use. Also depending on the conditions there maybe a chance to do some macro photography as Martin Mere has a wide variety of plants and flowers.


Steward Ellett and the Welshot Imaging team will be on hand to give you expert tuition on how to get the best shots. There will be plenty of one to one tuition thoughout the day and of course plenty of fun.


You will learn:
* How to approach birds and get images without scaring them.
*Learn techniquies on how to photograph individuals from a group as well as how to photograph flocks etc. (including otters)
*Learn about flight photography.
*Experiment with angles and different ways of photographing birds / otters.
*Learn about background awarness.
*Find out why a shot does or does not work.
*Be encouraged to improve your own individual style.


If conditons allow you will also learn how to improve your macro photography (plants and flowers).


Timetable:


9.30am: We have exclusive use of a private room where tea and coffee is provided. You will be able to leave any equipment safely in a locked room so no need to carry loads of ‘stuff’ around.


12.00: Lunch is included and we will be in our private room with time to discuss your morning photos and techniques. This is also the time to discuss any questions you have.


1.00: Go back to the exotic areas if needed and / or visit the many hides and open wooded areas to capture the local birds that fly. This should include swans that can be photographed from the large hide which again is photographic friendly.

Equipment:
Below is advice only and not set in stone. Feel free to bring what you feel will help you enjoy the day to the full.


Please check your gear is working correctly and all batteries charged before you arrive. (There will be some sockets available for emergencies).
Clothing: For the conditions
Walking: All flat.. comfortable footwear, but no need for walking boots (unless you want) as all paths are tarmac / grass.
Hardy trousers as you may want to kneel and / or lay down for those wow shots! (Help will be on hand to get you up at no extra cost)!


Lenses: Zoom or prime lens: Ideal 200 - 300 or larger.
General Purpose lens.
Wide angle if you have one (for zany fun stuff).
Macro lens. For flowers and maybe insets/butterflies.


Tripod and or Monopod
Beanbag
Plenty of Memory / Portable downloader.
Spare Batteries.
