Documentary, Reportage and Street Scene Photography.

Location: Manchester's City Centre
Workshop Lead: Mark Scholey
Date & Time: 24th July 2010

This is a full day street photography workshop in which you'll be shown, and encouraged to explore, Manchester's city centre to capture exciting street scenes.
The workshop will comprise a short introductory lecture to introduce you to the basic skills needed to capture street scenes in the way you want. Mark will be on hand to demonstrate these techniques throughout the day as well as provide further help with your images.

You'll be taught how to:

Work with your shutter to create movement and dynamic images
How to work unobtrusively whilst on the street
How to shoot from the hip with confidence
Use DOF to maximise the impact of your images
The benefits and drawbacks of particular methods of street shooting
The types of subjects that make good street images
And finally the afternoon will have an exercise to test your new street shooting skills

You will begin the day with a 45 minute lecture over tea and coffee in a private function room in a local hotel talking through the techniques needed prior to going out into the city with any question you have being answered.

All participants will have a set afternoon activity/ project of shooting to a theme such as: feet, signs, abandoned things, doorways, people interacting etc. A more detailed list will be given but it is up to you to decide what you want to do.

After the days shooting we will, over tea and coffee, review the days events and some of the images afterwards. This will take place in a private function room also.

Eifion and Lee from Welshot will also be attending to help you get the best from the days events and your camera.

Lunch is included and will be in a local pub eating local fare.

You will be sent a complete list of gear / kit required and any maps and other information you may need closer to the workshop date.

Thanks Lee - I might try and see if I can squeeze this one in. Do you know when it starts / finishes during the day ?

Where abouts is the hotel in Manchester? - Will it be far from Picadilly as i'll be catching the train and getting off at Piccadilly.

Thanks!

Mark

HI Mark,

I hear is't at the Midland Hotel, which is a short ride on the Metro away - or about a 20 minute walk from Picadilly station.

The Midland is right by GMEX so you just need to head in that direction - it's a huge hotel, where the MP's stop when the conference it in Manchester, so hard to miss.

I'll hopefully be able to come along and help with this workshop, so look forward to catching up with you all.

Cheers

Ade

Thanks for the great day - Can't believe how many pictures I took during the day (and how many I deleted!). I must have kept around 10% of the ones we took. I finally finished processing them all last night and created a set on Flickr:

I also uploaded the test video I took when Ade lent me is Lensbaby (Sorry Lee about the clip of you at the end!) :

I had a great day too - thanks to everybody involved. It's a new area of photography for me & I was pleased with the results. Next time less rejects and more in focus I hope :-)

You can see some pics on my web site: http://www.wilmslow.org.uk/photography

Any opinions welcome...

Forgot to add "and click on 'Manchester People' " - don't want anyone thinking we were in Northumberland...
