View Full Version : Photoshop CS5 - is it getting too clever for it's own good.

After watching these two videos of the new content aware fill feature that's coming in CS5 I'm left wandering how long it will be before there's a "read my mind" brush. I love the look of this feature for clearing flare, dust, scratches and the odd wire but the panoramic bit is just weird.

I need to upgrade from CS2 so have decided to wait for CS5. Looks really good, just hope I can get it whilst still a student!! ie lots of discount.

Hi,
I have just upgraded to CS5, MCC told me that my mac was 64 bit so I installed using the default 64bit install. Now Photoshop just wont print, it si a bit of a nightmare really as I was intending to use it to run off my course work pictures for college. I am a bit stumped, updated the Printer firmware, updated the printer drivers, checked for any recent CS5 patches. No luck! At the moment I an having to use the preview window and print screen grabs, for speed but this is not really satisfactory. Adobe have said that they may respond in 3 days, my course work has to be in on Thursday :annoyed:

Saw a demo of the Panoramic feature - really amazing - I think you're right Paul - the read my mind brush must be on the way.
Soon we will be able to send our cameras out to do the work for us.

Do you mean that Photoshop does not "see" your printer or do you mean it "sees" the printer but will not communicate?
Which printer do you have? Have you searched for printer compatibility with CS5 64bit?
See here to change to 32bit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hle1cf7QVL8

Thanks very much for that. It is a neat trick to switch between 32bit and 64bit. Unfortunately I just tried it and have the same problem. CS5 lists a load of paper profiles for my printer which I didn't get before so it must be compatible, trouble is it says that I have low ink although I have just replaced the cartridges.
I go all through the correct printing workflow and the printer displays nothing and a preview of the print just reveals a blank Page?

Hmmmm........., are you trying to print from a 16 bit file? if yes, try it in 8 bit.

Hi,
Adobe suggested that I uninstall then reinstall my print driver and for 64 bit mode ensure that I am in 64bit mode when installing. I don't know how to do that, I have reinstalled my Brother MFC 6490 CN driver for OSX10.6.
I have also tried to print a simple Jpeg. I get the same result, just a blank page. Might be visiting MCC on Friday

Andy,
As a member of Mold Camera Club (MCC) I am curious what you mean by MCC?

Hi Sorry for the confusion Chris, I could have meant the Marylebone Cricket Club couldn't I. I am a bit fed up with my laptop at the moment. The MCC I was referring to was the MMC store in Chester where I bought my Mac, (www.mccdigital.com).
As regards Mold Camera club, I am considering joining either Mold or Hawarden as I live Connah's Quay I am half way between the two although I am a bit too busy at the moment to do either.

Have you tried uninstalling your printer then reinstalling?

Andy,
Thanks for sorting that out. Was just a little confused. Thanks also to Mark
I am biased but I would recommnend Mold Camera Club as I think it is far more dynamic than Hawarden. I know a few of the guys at Hawarden and they would probably shoot me for saying so. If you pop me an e-mail to photo@noblemultimedia.co.uk I can then send you a copy of the club's newsletter. We meet on Monday night's at Cathrina House on Victoria Road in Mold.

Vote for Mold Camera Club from me. One of the best camera clubs in the area. Probably because it is like Welshot in some ways... That is to do with Chris :) I think :) As I know he is a believer in the Welshot ethos as well :)

Lee is right - I have taken a lot of what I have learnt from Welshot and try to put it into Mold. I also hope that I contribute to Welshot with things that I learn from Mold.

Have you tried uninstalling your printer then reinstalling?
Hi, uninstalling then reinstalling drivers was what Adobe suggested. I have tried it but nort sure I did the uninstall properly. I went to System preferences>printers and faxes. Highlighted my printer and clicked on "-" and my printer disappeared from the list, unfortunately so did my photo scanner. I then reinstalled the OSX10.6 CUPS Driver. The only difference that I noticed is that now the Printer menu that comes up does not say 'low Ink' but I still can't get any prints out. My lecturer in college said that one of his friends is having exactly the same problem, (Which sounds a bit worrying).

Hi,
I just went and got my original driver installation disk for my printer and used the utility on there to uninstall the drivers. Then I reinstalled my original drivers which actually say on them Mac OSX 10.6. It worked I got a print preview anyway and have just got a print out. Next stop calibration, but I think I might take it back to the shop because it seems to be running slowly, which is not quite why I got the 8GB upgrade for 64bit operation.
Thanks for the help guys.
