This workshop will take photographers around both the modern and Victorian areas of Leeds City centre, taking in the start of the Leeds Liverpool canal, the impressive Town Hall and the stunning modern Clarence Dock area. This is a chance to recreate all those wonderfull HDR's that you saw at previous Academy Evenings.
Route around Leeds We will meet outside Leeds Town Hall at 10AM

Features to photograph (approx 1.5 hours)
Town Hall – Victorian giant
Library
Henry Moore Institute and statue – reflective black stone façade
Leeds Museum – Old mechanics building with impressive steps
Leeds Cathedral – small catholic cathedral
Civic Hall – golden owls and splendid 2-towered facade
Millennium Square – large open space with huge TV etc
Gardens with fountains
Park Square
Approx 30 mins
City centre square with gardens
St Paul’s House – Islamic architecture
Victorian terraced houses with Town Hall in background
City Square Approx 1 hour
Bustling square with fountains that come out of the ground.
Old Post Office
Queen’s Hotel – Leeds no. 1 hotel, lovely white building
1 City Square – very bold modern building, glass façade and pagoda roof
Black Prince – large statue of knight on a horse
Other statues – several statues including Joseph Lister
Granary Wharf
Approx 1 hour
Long cavernous brick tunnel under the train station
Noisy bridge where the river Aire passes below the train station
Start of the Leeds Liverpool canal – first lock.
New “City Inn” hotel
New round building and wooden apartment building
New footbridge
3 “Italian” towers by the canal
Views of Bridgewater Place (aka the Dalek) – Leeds tallest building
Walk to the Market
About a ½ mile (30 minute) saunter to the Market taking in:-
Sovereign Street – Malmaison and other large buildings
Heaton’s court – Small street next to the rail line
Lower Briggate – bold Victorian street, colourful shops
Briggate – Main shopping street
The Bourse - Slight detour to this small street with a maze of mirrors at the end

One of the most impressive Victorian buildings in the city, if not the UK
The Market Building
The Victoria Quarter – a series of arcades and shops, may have issues with security going inside, but they are nice outside too.
The Corn Exchange – a lovely round building, a small Albert Hall, with cobbled streets
Walk to Clarence Dock
15-30 minutes
From the Corn Exchange there’s a pleasant walk over Millennium Footbridge to Brewery Wharf, then along the canal to Crown Point Bridge, whose underside is very popular and has appeared in books, then you arrive at Clarence Dock

The end of the day, if there is a strong sun at sunset, this is the best place to be!

Cost includes Lunch in a local Hostilery, one to one tuition from Adrian Wilson and Eifion Williams.
Does not include travel to Leeds but if enough interest is shown Welshot are prepared to organise the hire of a mini bus at extra cost.
This workshop will only be held with 5 or more attendees. The limit on this workshop is 12 people.
