Hi
I am Lee Iggulden and I am the Photographic Coordinator for Welshot Imaging Ltd.
I bring the client, the photographer and the image together.
I also coordinate and organise all the Workshops the Academy runs and makes sure we have the right professional photographer for the job.
You can contact me on ph 01248 670 693 with any questions you may have.

Hi all, my name's Melanie (people usually call me Mel) and I'm a Welshot Academy member. :D
My job is Photolab Manager for a well known High Street Chemists, where I get to develop photos all day. :) I'm married to David who's a builder.
My hobbies include photography (obviously!), historic volkswagens - I also run the Anglesey aircooled vw club where we go camping and go to the pub a lot :), papercrafting - I also co-run the papercrafter club on Anglesey, and love to socialise and go out with friends. I'm always busy as you can tell from my hobbies so never have time to be bored.
That's about it really, the end!!

I am new to the Academy, visited first time on Wednesday and really enjoyed myself. As you can tell from my username I am always doing too much. I am very fond of animals (any sort) but have dogs (bearded collies) and cats (maine coons) at home. I like walking, bird watching and enjoy taking pictures, hence joining the academy so I can get better. I like sailing or any sort of water sport. Unfortunately my head thinks I can do things my body isn't keen on any more that goes for riding horses too. I also like computers and quilting. I help run a cat show and I am the editor of a dog breed club magazine.

Hey Welcome Carol.
You need to talk to Mel. She is into craft stuff as well. :)
Have you ever heard the saying ... Ask a busy person to do something ... cos they always get it done :)
That must be you.
Welcome to the Academy. I am glad you enjoyed it enough to join up on your first visit.
It was a good night wasn't it. It was buzzing. :):)
See you soon, and dont forget your one to one learning basic camera skills with Eif

LOL Mel :D
You have made me want a VW now. Can you imagine that with Welshot all over it :yahoo:
Welcome to the Academy, you are real fun to have around and you keep those blokes under control for me when I'm busy:thumbsup:
See you tommorrow at the lightroom workshop with John Arnold.

A vw would be very practical for carrying all your gear everywhere, and a Campervan would be so handy for making cuppa's for when we're on a day out with the Academy! :D
Think of the lovely big sign you could put on it advertising the Academy!
You know it makes sense!!

My job in Welshot is Managing Director, or so the paper work says.
So on paper i'm the Boss but as most of you know, Lee is really the Boss.
I am the technical one with the camera, i like to get the photo as right as i can get it before i press the shutter. Being brought up with film camera's i have alway's worked this way, if there is anything that you think i can help you with, i am only a click away or give me a call.

Hi, this is Chris Jones otherwise known as Christine but prefer Chris, though it's confusing when there's also a male Chris Jones in Welshot!
I'm a Control Operator for the local Council, but have 2 great passions in my life. Firstly my two beautiful Daughter's and secondly my photography! I used to do a lot of photography years ago, but unfortunately had to give it up for a while, but I'm back now and more determined than ever! My ultimate aim is to be a professional photographer so hopefully I'll be good enough eventually! :P
Thanks very much to Lee and Eifion for all their hard work and advice within the Academy, it's really appreciated and very enjoyable!! Keep up the good work and hopefully I can get more time off work to attend your lovely sessions! :D
Thanks for a great Lightroom course today which was really enjoyable, but I think my brain is on information overload now, though I've managed to do some editing and tagging tonight on a few photos, so I must have remembered at least some of it! :yahoo:
I look forward to seeing you in Chester Zoo on Saturday, thanks!

My nineteen ft campervan will be used for cuppas now Mel... Not sure Clive will like it painted though..
But now one of those beetle bug cars that would go with the Smartie would be cool:thumbsup:

Hello Chris:)
Yes it does get a tad confusing and yesterday was a hoot. I said "Chris can you go to Eifion please" and Chris Jones and Chris Jones both went to Eifion lol :D
We should just call Chris Jones (Male) Flat Ant.... Thats what we do in the office anyways ...
Glad to have you on board Chris and stick at your plan and it will work. It will be hard but you will get there with a bit of determination.
Lee :)

We are a team with lots of other people behind the scences as well. From our other professional photographers to people within the industry such as Aaduki Insurance and Bogen Imaging and Perma Jet to Lynsey of L29 and Chris of Flat Ant..
Its all team work but we couldnt do this without the Academy Members either. :)

Hello Lee,
Sorry for the confusion, but don't call the other Chris Flat Ant just on my behalf, I'll just have to concentrate on where you're looking when you call our name, mind you, it didn't help as we were sitting next to each other! :P
Thanks for the advice, I have the determination, but it's just a question of if I can become as good a photographer as I used to be with a film camera years ago. Having children seems to have lost my memory power and confidence, but I'm sure I'll regain it with more practise! I'll get there in the end!
By the way, I'm sorry I said I was going on the Chester trip before asking you if it was ok as I hadn't had a chance to speak to you about it earlier! I'm glad that you can fit me in though, as I'm really looking forward to it! :D
Chris.
I am an ex biology teacher now working as a freelance photographer selling stock photos through several picture libraries. I started with a medium format camera but now use digital for all stock, favouring the Canon EOS 5D markii which I think is brilliant.
I live on Anglesey which I love for its coastline and proximity to the mountains. In the little spare time I have I enjoy walking, preferably in Snowdonia, when I carry an Olympus E400 because it is lighter than the 5D! I am on the Ynys Mon Ramblers Group committee and run their website (www.ynysmonramblers.org.uk for anyone interested in seeing what we do).

They make this plastic covering like you've got on the Smart car which requires no painting at all!! That would be ideal for a Beetle!! :-)

I am a retired medical microbiologist. My life now revolves entirely around photography and I am loving the new challenges that this is providing. I have been a keen photographer since I was a teenager and once upon a time did quite a lot of photomicrography. My principal interests now centre on photography as an art form and I am trying hard to develop the technical competence that will allow personal expression. I particularly enjoy people related material including portraiture.
I have found Welshot immensely helpful this year. Particularly in relation to the contact it provides with expert professionals and the informative and very friendly interactions that are being fostered with other enthusiasts.
Impressed with the web-site and trying to learn how to cope with topics and threads.

Hi Tony and Welcome :)
I am sure you will pick this (the forum) up no problem and it will soon become another tool to help you within your photography..
It is nice to have you around and I loved looking at your book last Wednesday evening. I am sure it is something that Welshot should be producing of all the Academy Members work so I will get some advice from you on that one.
Have a nice day Tony :)

This is all a bit confessional isn't it?
I'm a network engineer and have been a keen amateur photographer since my Grandad let me play with his Pentax ME-Super back in the olden days. I flipped between Nikon and Canon low end film bodies unitl the dawn of digital allowed me to pick up a film EOS 5 cheaply. Having been spoiled by that I'm now using a 30D (with half an eye on a 7D/5D if I win the pools)
I'm a total geek and love all things technical so I'm hoping to bring out more creativity and emotion through my photography. The academy rocks and we are so lucky to have a resource like this available locally, massive thanks to Lee and Eifion for all their hard work and everyone else who attends for making it such a great learning environment.

Just to stop Lee hitting me with a peace of 4 by 2, this is me, Andrew Wells.
I'm a full time pro based in Abergele, Working mainly as a Commercial Photographer, plus some Portraiture and Event photography. Some of you will have met me at some of the monthly meetings, helping run some of the workshops, which I love to do and love to share my experience with you all.
If anyone has any questions they want to ask me, then please just get in touch.
If you want to check out my work, then here are a few sites for you to look at:

Hi, my Name is Ben, I run a small distribution company selling Holga Cameras and Polaroid Film. It is called Minute Film and can be found at www.minutefilm.co.uk (http://www.minutefilm.co.uk). I am pretty passionate about the importance of learning photography from a very basic start. I like to photograph things that exist only photographically - like shallow depth of field, movement, infra-red. I also write a blog... www.minutefilm.blogspot.com (http://www.minutefilm.blogspot.com).

Hi I'm John from Colwyn Bay, just getting into photography and loving every minute of it :D.
Really impressed with the way everyone has been so friendly and chilled out at the two academy evnings that I've been to, thanks for making me feel welcome .
Main interests are in photographing structures (goes with the job of being an engineer) and night time photography, although the Chester academy night on low and high key work has also got me interested in trying some B&W punky or retro type studio work .
Looking forward to Anglesey academy night on B&W photography/photo journalism.

I.m a newbie member although I have been meaning to join for a while but got sidetracked with building a website and getting to grips with SEO
I first met Lee and Efion just before Welshot's inaugural open day. I was present for that, have done a wedding workshop, an urban workshop in Liverpool with Will Cheung. Hope to make it to more of the Chester Academy evenings - the last one on studio lighting was really good.

Hey Roger, I didnt need to push a button, it was done a while ago... You registered for the forum ages ago.

19/02/2011, 17:47
Hey Roger. Just to let you know that at this stage, until we intergrate the forum into the website properly then you need to log into the forum and log into the website.
The forum is a stand alone service apart from the website - different accounts / registration etc.
Sorry, not much we can do about it at the moment.
The benefit is though, that our website has been completly built specifically for what we do and not built up around a forum based site....
Hope this goes some way to explain why you need to log in twice if you are going to be using both parts of Welshot at once.... I just leave myself logged in and then I dont have any worries lol.
Hope you are very well :)
Lee :)

Hi all,
Right then, I'm Jon a new academy member after going to the open day last weekend, I'm 35, married to Toni and father of Ava my 3 year old daughter. - Both have no interest in photography - So I’m only allowed out to play on a time for good behaviour basis; and when child care is also available. [So time is limited people but I wouldn't change a thing]...
I'm interested in all types of photography, I work for Hewlett Packard but for Enterprise Services so don't ask me about printers. I do a bit of wedding photography on the side mainly for friends, I did 4 wedding last year and have 5 booked in so far this.
Hope to see you all again
Jon

Hi,
I'm Katy, aka the maker of the new Welshot mascot. I've known Lee since before Welshot exploded onto the photographic scene, even proof-read numerous pages of the original website lol.
I work as a software test lead, but when not chained to my desk I make teddy bears and other critters, and enjoy walking, cycling and clumbing. Probably because of the last 3 things, most of my photos revolve around landscapes, well, that and the bears!
Lee told me earlier she knew I'd use the forums, so I'd better go and find something else to reply to quick smart ;)

Hi I'm Julie, I went along to the Chester academy evening last night after thinking about going for a while. Wish I'd gone earlier as everybody was really friendly and made me feel very welcome. I'm looking forward to joining in on other events, learning lots and having fun too!
I love all types of photography but especially nature, wildlife and birds but then because I'm out shooting those I see lots of nice landscapes so I shoot those, then I see other people so I get some shots of them too. I also shoot my son's football team, the two team's my hubby runs when I can and various other related matches and events. But I love it, just wish I had an extra 24 hours on every day to fit everything in!
Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Well, after promising Lee that I'd join within 6 hours of our meeting, I've eventaully got around to it about a month later - oops!
Anyway, hi. My name's Jason and, along with half the planet, never have a clue what to write in these introductions. I suppose that I could tell you about the fact that I have an unhealthy appetite for blisteringly hot curries, or that my stupid feet refuse to stop growing (size 14 at the last count). On a more serious note, I have a genuine passion for photography, especially fashion/editorial/portrait stuff. I've been trading for a few months now and have my own website (www.newmodelarmyphotos.com), which also has a link to my Facebook page if you care to have a look.
Err, that's about it, I suppose! I'm looking forward to meeting everybody in the near future, it's refreshing to know that there's such a great support network available, especially so close to home :)

Thank You Jason and Welcome to Welshot.
I am sure you will fit right in with the rest of the gang - especially those who love curries, a few beers and then going out to do some photography....
See you around soon.
Lee :)
And now you are a Member you could advertise that "Idea you had on here if you want...

Keith - you're my new best friend! Seriously though, thanks everybody for your kind words and support. I'll be trawling through members' websites and their Flickr and Facebook pages very soon so that I can also see the breadth of talent out there :-)

Hi - Gill McGowan (well you knew that - it says so in the post header!). Joined Welshot a week or so ago after attending a couple of evening workshops, where I may have met some of you. A few of you already know me a little on-line via Flickr or Twitter.
Started photography aged around 10 (which is, unfortunately, a few years back now) with my Mum's old Box Brownie and a second hand enlarger in the garage. My parent's enthusiasm for photography rubbed off on myself and my brother, and the interest has been there at various levels throughout my life. However life has a habit of getting in the way of the things which really interest you, and after having the hobby on the back burner for some years, in 2008 I decided to start a photography project with a few internet friends. After all shooting a photo-a-day for 100 days, half of them never wanted to see a camera again, and the other half of us became hooked and still are. I acquired my first DSLR, then my second (I'm a Canon girl), and have been shooting obsessively ever since.
I seem to have plateau-ed somewhat, and am looking to try to improve further, mainly in portraiture and artificial lighting, which is why I finally decided, after a recommendation 18 months ago, to try Welshot.
I am a stupid woman. Why didn't I do this sooner?!

Better late than never and it is lovely to have you around. It will be nice to see you participate in the forums, maybe we can stir the blokes up a bit ;)

Hi all,
My name is Clive Davies. I was introduced to this family community by James Farley, and I have not been dissapointed. I am based in Buckley Nr Chester. I have been made very welcome and all the people I have met are extremely friendly.
Can anybody help me with a problem. I edit in Lightroom and export my pics to a Windows file for printing. However some sites advise me my shots are of a low quality and dont recommend I print. How should I save my shots? they are generally around 5mb and saved as JPEG. if I crop them I lose a lot of MB. what size should I save them as 4x6.. Would that cover a bigger canvas size?
I would be grateful if someone could help

This sounds like a topic for Joan of Photo Imaging to me... I will point her in this direction...
Think it may have been covered on the forum before so have a hunt around Clive.
Welcome to Welshot as well :) Nice to have you around and save us from any flat tyres we have :)

Photo Imaging

Hello Clive,
Are you actually cropping to a print size in Lightroom? Here's how we suggest print set up.
Preparing Files for Print via Photo Imaging
For this I am assuming that you are working in Photoshop/Lightroom and have opened your pic, carried out all of your photo editing and saved the resulting file as your master image file to allow you to go back at any point to tweak if required.
So, here you are with your layered master file and you want to have a selection of print sizes made at Photo Imaging.
1. Flatten your file and save it via "save as" choose Tiff format and give that flattened file a different name to the original (I would suggest making separate folders, one for master files and one for print work)
2. Labs print at standard photo sizes so you will need to crop your file to a print size, here are the standard print sizes that we produce, on Fuji Crystal Archive paper, in inches: 6x4, 5x5, 7x5, 7.5x5, 8x6, 8x8, 9x6,10x8, 10x10, 12x8, 12x10 and 15x10. (Larger prints are produced via our Large format printer)
3. Now you need to crop your flattened file to a print size, select your crop tool and in the options bar at the top put in the required crop, say, 6x4 and add ins for inches or cms etc. after the figures and Photoshop knows that you want inches or cms and 300 ppi in the resolution box drag the crop tool over your pic to select the area required, it willgive you an exact 6x4, or whatever size you have chosen, crop (this is easier than it sounds)
4. Save your cropped file as a jpeg, 10 or above quality, add the size to the file name (makes life easier) then save it to your print folder.
5. If your files are Adobe RGB you will need to convert them to SRGB, Edit - convert to profile - choose SRGB or you could convert a folderful via the image processor File - scripts - image processor, SRGB is the working space for our Fuji Frontier and will give you the best results.
6. All files should be supplied as RGB files even for black & white pics so if you have converted to greyscale (eek, that's a no no) convert to RGB via Image - mode - RGB Colour also while you are there ensure that the file is 8bit and not 16bit as, as yet, photo labs do not print 16bit (also you really only need to process files in 16bit if you are doing extreme editing in my opinion ;)
7. Write to a CD bring or send it to Photo Imaging or upload to You Send it, Rapidshare etc and we'll print your files.

Hi, I'm Martin.....
Joined up to the forum today after attending what turned out to be a really good Workshop session in Chester last night (19th Jan). Found out about Welshot via a promotion day in Chester, and last night was the first workshop night when I happened to be in the UK instead of being away with work.
Been taking photos for maybe 4 years now - purely for my own amusement initially, but other people seem to like them as well now (which is a bonus I guess).
Am a keen cook, possibly terminal caffine addict, love sport, music and am very much a city person. Also enjoy just watching the world go by and people getting on with their lives....
I am also a serial traveller - a big passion of mine now - and manage to do a fair bit with my work, although you never get to see the interesting bits of countries on business travel. I have also been set the frightening challenge of visiting and photographing the new 7 wonders of the world, along with the 7 natural wonders of the world (and maybe the 7 engineering wonders if anyone can agree on them) - in the next 4 years... gonna be difficult, but fun trying to do that
Favourite types of photography for me are Urban landscapes, gigs, travel and reportage, Also, as I'm the token non-drinker with a "good camera" I usually end up being the official photographer for various parties and drunken / debauched nights out (useful for blackmail purposes though....)
Want to get into B&W and I/R photography as well as learn how to take proper portrait pics. Also would be nice to get to a stage where I can start selling a few pics to fund this rather worrying L Series Lens habit I seem to have acquired... some way off that though I think...

Good to meet you last night. Let's hope your work allows you to attend more evenings and workshops in the near future.
In the meantime you'll find lots of things going on here in the Forum.
Might speak to the Mrs about doing the 7 wonders.......good for the bucket list
