When you are outdoors this time of year with your camera, give your camera time to acclimatise to the temperature before using it, the lens especially will fog up for a while.
If it is still snowing or raining cover up your camera to avoid it getting damaged, as electronics dont like water. You can buy purpose made covers but you could use a plastic bag and a couple of elastic bands to get you by, just leave the front element of the lens exposed and use the hood that came with the lens which will give it extra protection.

When shooting a snow scene give a little more exposure, say 1.5 to 2 extra stops compensation otherwise the snow will have a blueish hue.
Townscapes and Landscapes look very different when they have had a covering of snow, so give it a try.

Look for detail shots, like frozen leaves , garden tools anything which has been out overnight and got covered in frost. Use a tripod to give you a good steady shot, dont use flash as this will burn out detail and give lose the effect.
