Hiya Guys.
I can confirm that on Wednesday 25th November we have Nia Roberts from The Welsh Assembly Government coming to the Academy Evening to talk to you all about...
Copyright
Copyleft
Orphan Works
How to protect your images
Know your rights as a photographer re your images.
If you have ANY questions can you please email them to me so I can pass them onto Nia. Nia can then do any relevant research if you give her some sticky questions.
This is relevant to ALL photographers regardless of whether you are just an enthusiast, semi pro or professional photographer.
The Second module is yet to be decided / confirmed but I would suggest you start to get ONE image printed and mounted to bring along with you :)
Lee :)

Hello Everyone.
Just to remind you all that we will be meeting as normal at the Anglesey Arms Hotel in Menai Bridge at 6.30pm this Wednesday 25th November.
This month we have the following:
1/ Ms. Nia Roberts from the National Welsh Assembly is coming to visit us and tell us how Copyright, Copyleft, (yes it does exist) and Orphan Works affect YOU the photographer. Much more will be discussed and this will be an open forum style lecture.
This is not just for Professional Photographers but is relevant to anyone who takes images. This is valuable information and would not normally be available to such a group as ours and Eifion and I urge you to attend attend as it will be relevant in how you protect your work.
2/ Mr. John Bubb will be giving a demonstration on retouching your images. John has been a professional retoucher for many years working on some of the major magazines such as Tattler, Top Gear, Cosmopolitan and Home and Gardens.
He will be going over the Basics of retouching in Photoshop, not just about all the buttons but rather what the buttons do and what is the first thing you should look at when you open up an image in photoshop.
He will be covering basic colour theory and resolution. How to manage your whites, greys and mix colours......
Make sure you bring a pen and paper.
Like anything Welshot do, it is all about the effort YOU put in, so please come armed with lots of questions.
Please could you use this link http://www.welshotimaging.co.uk/academy/wednesday/ to register and pay for the evening.
I will need to know of your attendance by Tuesday lunchtime for catering purposes.
Eifion and I look forward to seeing you. :)

Excellent night at the Anglesey Arms last night, we learned a lot about various aspects of copyright issues, etc, from Nia, and I think we all know now that the onus is on us to protect our work. We can do a lot by posting ONLY small low res images on web sites for display purposes, and provide hi-res images after agreeing terms, etc, if asked. The situation is of course different if images are supplied to libraries or agencies.
The second session with John Bubb was amazing (evident by the time the hard core allowed John to go home!!). We were given a lot of background knowledge by John, that he felt we should be aware of before beginning to discuss actual retouching.
Some of the information was a bit deep for people starting out with image processing software, but John did impart a huge amount of information last night that is only the tip of the Photoshop iceberg. I like the idea of a workshop on the subject with John, and think this is definitely a subject that needs workshops at different skill and ability levels.
Thanks again to Nia and John for their time and efforts, and also to Lee and Eifion for arranging such an informative Academy evening.
PS The food last night was even better than usual, please also pass on our thanks to all at the Anglesey Arms.
David.

Thank you David.
Your kind words will be passed on to John and Nia. :)
A workshop will be arranged for John Bubb in the New Year and we will be starting with an "Introduction" then an "Intermidate" and then on to an "Advanced"
I realised last night how important it was to "Know" about basic colour theory first and you are right, it was just the tip of the iceberg.
Sorry I had to kick you all out at midnight ;) but a girl gotta get her beauty sleep dontcha know :P
Off for the weekend now to Steward Ellett's Donna Nook Nature Workshop :yahoo: Let's hope for some rain free days:thumbsup:
Thanks again guys, you make all the hard work worth it and we love the buzz you create:yahoo:
